Trinity Lutheran Church, 175 S. Third St., Lehighton, will hold Transfiguration Sunday worship at 9 a.m. Feb. 10, with the Trinity Praise Band and Holy Communion. Interim pastor, the Rev. Donald Hayn, will preside. Coffee fellowship follows the service.
Sunday School "Power Hour" begins at 10:15 a.m. for ages 3-through-adult.
The season of Lent begins Feb. 13. Ash Wednesday worship with Holy Communion and imposition of ashes will be held at noon and 7 p.m. Ashes applied in the shape of a cross by the pastor to the congregant's forehead is a sign of repentance, suggesting cleansing and renewal.
There will be midweek services during Lent, Feb. 20 through March 20. Each Wednesday there will be worship at noon, followed by a soup luncheon. Each Wednesday evening there will be a soup supper at 6 p.m. then "Holden Evening Prayer" worship at 7 p.m. Immediately following the 7 p.m. worship is a Lenten study based on the movie "Chocolat," reflecting on issues of grace, forgiveness and transformation.
Trinity's youth reported following their 30-hour hunger "lock-in." It was a synod-wide event where Trinity hosted the mission district's 18 participants. They increased their understanding about the effects of hunger through activities including fasting, worship and service projects. A total of 54 hygiene kits were assembled to be distributed to residents affected by Hurricane Sandy.
