TAHS athletes

The athletic department of the Tamaqua Area School District is interested in forming a Tamaqua Area Athletic Alumni Association. An organizational meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Jan. 9, in room 108 of the Tamaqua Area Senior High School.All former athletes, coaches and friends of TAHS athletics are welcome to attend. The first 40 people in attendance will receive a free TAHS thumb drive.For further information, contact Mike Hromyak, TASD athletic director, mhromyak@tamaqua.k12.pa.us.Senior citizensThe Tamaqua Senior Citizens group held its last meeting of 2013 on Dec. 19 with 54 members in attendance. President Melody Weicker conducted the business session. Jacque Patrick provided the invocation.Reports were offered by the secretary and treasurer.The meeting concluded with cards and social games.The seniors meet at 1 p.m. every Thursday, at the Masonic Lodge, located on SR54 (East) in Hometown. Anyone 55 or older is welcome to join. The center is handicap accessible. Due to the holidays, the next meting will be held at Jan. 9.Rush tax officeThe office of Rush Township Tax Collector Dolores Walck will be open on Dec. 30 from 10-11 a.m. and again from 6-7 p.m. for last minute tax payments. Mail payments must be postmarked no later than Dec. 31.Bethany ECThe Rev. Kevin Roberts will officiate at the 8 a.m. traditional service this Sunday in Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church. A contemporary service will be held at 10:30 a.m. at the Tamaqua YMCA, including nursery and primary church. Sunday school classes will meet at 9:15 a.m., at the church.Activities for next week will include: Tuesday, prayer time at 8:30 a.m.; Saturday, musician's practice at 8:30 a.m. and praise practice at 9:30 a.m.Zion LewistownThe Rev. Jim Williams will officiate at the 10:30 a.m. service this Sunday in Zion Church in the Lewistown Valley. Sunday school classes will meet at 9:15 a.m.Also on Sunday, the youth group will meet at 9:15 a.m.A budget meeting will be held at 10 a.m. on Jan. 6.The church has a new web page at
