Weissport Redneck Festival coming Labor Day Weekend

Weissport's popular Redneck Festival will be held this weekend in the Weissport Park in the center of the town. And this year they've added Friday night activities to the fun.

The festivities, including the redneck games, contests and food vendors and live entertainment, will begin Friday night from 5 to 10 p.m. and from noon to 10 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday. Proceeds from the event benefit youth recreation in Weissport.The event is sponsored by the Weissport Recreation Committee."This is the only festival in the area where everyone is invited to participate in the events," said Duane Dellecker, committee chairman. "This festival lets everyone who wants to take part be involved."For those who would rather watch, there is always the opportunity to cheer on the participants who compete in the contests.On Friday night the event opens with the Redneck Karaoke Entertainer in partnership with Young-at-Heart Entertainment presenting, "A Redneck Puppet Jamboree." This show is adult and kid friendly. The show will be held from 5 to 10 p.m.Also at 7 p.m., there is a new event, "Ma and Pa Kettle contest," where the audience is encouraged to create a skit or play one of the musical instruments in true Ma and Pa Kettle Fashion. "Ma and Pa" will try to win the audiences' and judges' heart to win a prize.Saturday's activities begin with the Zimmies and Hot Wings Eating Cook Off. The audience has the chance to taste the best Hot Wings in the county in this taste-defying contest. Entrants will be the judges.At 2 p.m. Saturday, the "Rednecks Got Talent II" contestants will share their talent for prizes. Then at 3 p.m. Saturday, the Ugliest Pick Up Truck Contest takes place. The Korniest Couple Contest takes the stage at 4 p.m. Saturday, where local couples see if they really do know each other.At 5 p.m., Saturday, the local scrappers vie for the title of "Best Junker," where local boys and girls haul junk in the speediest time possible.The Junkers are followed at 6 p.m. by the I Luv My Mummy Contest. In this contest, contestant wrap their partners in "fresh" toilet paper.No Redneck Festival is complete without locating the prettiest girl in the area. The classy Miss Daisy Duke contest is set for 7 p.m. Saturday. The Mr. Redneck Contest will also be held at that same time.For the younger set, there is a Big Wheel Contest at 1 p.m. Sunday. This event for children ages 4 to 8, lets them race on Franklin Street for prizes.The Chariot Race, in which teams of two people take turns riding a toilet mounted on wheels down the middle of town, will be at 3 p. m. Sunday.New this year is the Wild and Wacky Wheebarrow Race at 5 p.m. Sunday,.There is the Tug a War contest at 6 p.m. Sunday, which pits some of the biggest and brawniest men in the county against each other.Also on Sunday, there will be a Watermelon Eating Contest at 1 p.m.; and The Best Rack Contest will be at 8 p.m.Sign-up for the events will be held throughout the festival and registration will close approximately 15 minutes before the event is scheduled to begin.Entertainment will be provided on Saturday from 6 to 10 p. m. by Banned From the Ranch, a country rock band; and on Sunday, from 5 to 9 p.m., Scott Marshall and his multi award winning Hillbilly Souls will take the stage.There will also be plenty of Redneck delicacies to sample in the park such as pork barbecue, corn dogs and corn on the cob.
