Jim Thorpe, Weatherly and Pleasant Valley came away with victories in boys basketball on Saturday.

Jim Thorpe-Panther Valley

Jim Thorpe escaped with a 42-41 victory over host Panther Valley thanks to a Steven Romanchik jumper falling short to win the consilation game of the Panther Valley Tip-off Tournament.

The Olympians' Mike Harleston scored seven of his team high 11 points in the first quarter, while Jaquan Brown hit eight of his double digit 10 in the second quarter.

The Panthers' Jake Szczecina netted nine of his game-high 14 points throughout the second half, while Brett Kerschner just missed double figures with eight points.

The Wreckers rolled ot to a 41-20 lead at the half and cruised to a 74-36 win over Columbia-Montour Vo-Tech over the weekend.

Josh Reiner was the leading scorer for Weatherly with 18, while Brett Stallone added 17. Tyler Sippler had 11 and Joe Haganey 10 as they both also finished in doubles.

After a slow first half, Marian was forced to play catch-up and eventually dropped a

tight decision, 33-28 to tournament host, Lourdes Regional.

Lourdes got 11 points apiece from Sarah Getchey and Rachel Schultz to lead the winners to the win.

Meanwhile, Marian received 10 points from Ashley Fannick and Savanna Krusinsky in the losing effort.

WRESTLING

Tamaqua at the Bloomsburg Invitational

The Blue Raiders finished 10th out of 16 teams participating in the Bloomsburg Invitational over the weekend, and placed four wrestlers in the tournament.

Colin Mashack won the event at 120 pounds and was the Outstanding Wrestler, as he downed Sullivan County's Shawn Nitcznski by a score of 3-0.

Heavyweight Luke Matsago lost a tight match in his final, 1-0 to Warrior Run's Austin Fielder to take second at that weight class. Meanwhile, teammates Dylan Rynkiewicz and Nolan Zeigler both finished fourth in their respective classes.

Lehighton, No. Lehigh at Bullet Invitational

The Bulldogs and Indians represented the area at the Bullet Invitational at Brandywine Heights, with Northern Lehigh finishing third and Lehighton taking ninth out of the twelve participating teams.

The 'Dawgs and the Tribe both had two wrestlers apiece make it to the individual finals, with all four of them dropping tough decisions in their respective matches.

For Nolehi, Matt Schmall(120) and Ty Herzog (152) both finished second in their respective weight classes, while Lehighton's Zach Kemmerer (106) and Connor Frey (160) matched the same feat.

Northern Lehigh's Nate Farber (160), Marcus Hardiman (170), and Tom Nesfeder (285) all dropped matches in the semifinals to provide their team with more team points.

Northwestern

at Nazareth Invitational

Northwestern took part in the Nazareth Invitational.

The Tigers finished seventh as a team in a field of eight teams.

Regardless of only fielding 10 of the 14 weight classes with individuals, senior Michael Ortiz (170) and freshman Jarret White (106) represented the Tigers with pride by earning themselves tournament titles in their respective weight classes.

Sophomore Tiger Cole Moyer grabbed himself a third-place finish, while freshmen Andrew Sorensen (152) and Quinton Bernhard (113) both collected fifth-place honors.

Palmerton took home a third-place finish as a team at the Catasauqua Duals over the weekend.

The Blue Bombers finished 3-2 with their lone losses coming to champion Scranton and runners-up Pius X.

The Bombers' Josh Evans (120) and Zachery Graver (170) finished with unblemished records going 5-0 throughout the day, while teammates Dillon Masington (126, 132) and Joey Bubble (152) both finished with only one loss in five matches.
