IronPigs take 2-0 lead

ALLENTOWN - For Brandon Moss, it was a night to send a message to and old friend. And Moss's timing couldn't have been more perfect.

Moss, who was a member of the PawSox and the Red Sox during the 2007 and 2008 seasons, stroked a game-winning, bases-loaded single in the bottom of the 10th inning that lifted the host IronPigs to a 3-2 victory and gave them a commanding 2-0 lead in their best-of-five series. The Ironpigs headed north up Interstate 95 to Pawtucket, where they can capture their first-ever playoff series when they two teams meet again tonight at 7.Moss, who hit a homer in the opening game Thursday night, drove in all three runs for the IronPigs. Moss hit a 1-1 pitch off reliever Randy Williams for the game-winner up the middle to send the euphoric and boisterous crowd of 7,865 home happy."This is excellent," said an elated Moss afterwards. "We have had excellent crowd support here."He (Williams) fooled me the first time I faced him, but I was ready the second time. It also is special getting a big hit against my old team."In the bottom of the second, Moss hit PawSox starter Tony Pena Jr's first pitch of the inning over the left-center field wall, a shot well over 400 feet that gave Lehigh Valley a 1-0 lead. But Pawtucket, who left 10 men in scoring position in Thursday's 4-2 loss, got off to a fast start last night when Jose Igesias singled to left off starter Ryan Edell and was brought home one batter later when Lars Anderson smacked a drive to right that bounced off the glove of Moss in right field that brought home Iglesias. However, the Sox's offensive woes weren't curbed as they managed a single from Che-Hsuan Lin and a walk from Daniel Nava as their lone baserunners over the next three innings. From there, Pena struggled as Lehigh Valley posted threats over the next three innings, and they took the lead on Moss's double to the right field wall in the third.Pena left the game after two runners reached base with two outs in the fifth and was replaced by Hideki Okajema, who got Moss to pop to shortstop Jose Iglesias to end the threat.Pawtucket battled back to tie the game in the eighth when Che-Hsuan Lin topped a chopper to Lehigh Valley first baseman Tagg Bozied who tried to tag Lin as he dove to try and touch the bag, missed Lin as he cradled the bag. Lin then moved to second on a wild pitch and was pushed to third on Jose Iglesias's sacrifice bunt. He scored on Daniel Nava's single to center.Pawtucket's Junichi Tazawa was impressive in his relief outing as he struck out three of the five batters he faced. He was replaced by Williams, who was brought in to face Moss and the lefthander got him to bounce to second to end the inning.Williams pitched himself out of a jam in the Lehigh Valley ninth after he issued a walk to Delwyn young, who was sacrificed to second. But he then got Tagg Bozied to fly to right and struck out pinch-hitter Eric Kratz, who homered Thursday night. In the 10th, Lehigh Valley's Justin DeFratas, who gained the victory, struck out Drew Sutton, Lin and Iglesias in succession , all of them were swinging.Edell was impressive as he allowed three hits over 5 innings and the bullpen of Mike Zagurski and Phillipe Aumount kept Pawtucket handcuffed in the late innings.DeFratus struck out four of the first five batters he faced.
