State police at the Schuylkill Haven barracks said a garbage truck caught fire at 8;15 a.m. Sept. 1 while it was traveling uphill on Rt. 209 in Branch Township.

Police said the driver of the 2002 Peterbilt trash truck was Daniel Bakerofskie, 49, of Girardville. Neither he nor two other occupants of the vehicle were injured.Police said the truck's transmission failed while the truck was climbing the hill, resulting in the fire. The Good Intent Fire Company, Llewellyn, responded and extinguished the fire.
