Motorcyclist rescued

Firefighters from the Community Fire Company of New Ringgold and the Orwigsburg Fire Company rescued a biker Sunday afternoon after he lost control of his bike and slid down an embankment East Brunswick Township, Schuylkill County. State police at Frackville said Thomas F. Costigan, 62, of Howell, N.J., was operating a 2005 Harley-Davidson southbound on Mountain Road, about 4:25 p.m. He lost control while negotiating a right curve, troopers said. The bike left the road, went down an embankment and struck several trees. Costigan sustained serious injuries to is chest and pelvic, troopers said, and was flown by Medevac helicopter to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township. Troopers noted that Costigan was wearing a helmet, long pants and boots. Fire personnel used ropes and a stokes basket to bring the injured biker back up to the roadway. The roadway was closed for two hours during the rescue. He will be cited for driving on roadways laned for traffic, troopers added.
