Rush Township forms Bicentennial Committee

In anticipation of Rush Township's 200th birthday celebration this year, a bicentennial committee was formed at a meeting held on Feb. 9.

In attendance to discuss bicentennial events were ten residents, Chairman Steve Simchak, Supervisor Robert Leibensperger, Secretary Terri Conville, and Administrative Assistant Marie Skripnek.The committee is calling on more residents and businesses to become involved in the township celebration. The next meeting will be held Thursday, March 10 at 6 p.m. at the Municipal Building.Following that second meeting, remaining meetings will be held on the second Wednesday of each month. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend.If anyone cannot make the meeting but has suggestions for the bicentennial celebration or wants to make a donation, they can contact the municipal office at (570) 668-2938.The scheduled lists of events to date are as follows:February 23 - Rush Township will be receiving a citation from the Schuylkill County CommissionersMarch 15 - Senator Dave Argall and Representative Jerry Knowles will present Rush Township with a citationApril 9 - Easter Egg Hunt at Miller ParkApril 16 - Easter Egg Hunt at Quakake ParkApril - Blood Drive at the Rush Municipal Building (Red Cross will confirm date)April 29 - Arbor Day Tree Planting CeremonyMay 3 - Hoagie Sale at the Hometown Fire CompanyMay 11 - Schuylkill County Commissioners will hold their meeting at the Rush Township Municipal BuildingMay 30 - Crowning of Poppy Queen at the Quakake LegionAugust 27 - Community Day (Tentative)November/December - Food Drive and Toys for Tots Program
