Woman charged second time

For the second time in six weeks, an Andreas woman is facing charges for allegedly "huffing," which is the illegal use of certain solvents.

On Thursday, March 31, at about 2:47 p.m., Mahoning Township police were dispatched to Mill Road between state routes 443 and 902.A call to the Carbon County Telecommunications Center reported that a female was driving a blue Hyundai SUV erratically, running the red light at SR443 and Mill Road (commonly known as the Normal Square light), driving on the wrong side of the road and running a car off of the road, and almost causing a rear-end crash with a vehicle in front of her.The female driver then stopped in the south lane of Mill Road facing north and allegedly was observed "huffing."Chief of Police Kenneth Barnes said concerned citizens stopped and would not allow the female driver to drive away. Officers arrived and initiated an investigation.Police confronted the female driver, identified as Miranda L. Mooney, 22, from the 1500 block of Penn Drive, Andreas.Police said Mooney was seated in the drivers seat and an aerosol can of "Clean Safe" brand dusting spray was on the drivers floor in front of her.Her actions, demeanor, behavior gave clear indications of impairment, said Barnes. Mahoning Valley EMS transported her to the Gnaden Huetten Campus of Blue Mountain Health System in Lehighton.Barnes said police will be charging Mooney with sale or illegal use of certain solvents and driving under the influence (DUI) of solvents or noxious substance.According to police, this is the second time in six weeks that township police have investigated and charged Mooney with these types of offenses. On Thursday, Feb. 3, at about 12:41 p.m., she allegedly was involved in a very similar incident on Fredericks Grove Road, said Barnes. She is awaiting a preliminary hearing on those charges.
