State police at Lehighton are investigating an armed robbery attempt that occurred early this morning in Monroe County.

Troopers said about 1 a.m. three black males forced their way into Room 4 at the Gateway Motel, located along Old Route 115, in Ross Township, and confronted the occupant, David G. Williams, 55. One of the three held a handgun to Williams' head and asked where his money was. When Williams told them he had no money, the three then ransacked the room.

The three fled without taking anything, troopers said.

Williams was only able to described the three as black males all wearing hooded sweatshirts. At least one wore a blue scarf over the lower half of his face, troopers added.
