Walnutport time capsule

Walnutport's Centennial Committee dedicated a time capsule, which is located in a planter outside of Borough Hall, Thursday evening. "It will be something for someone to enjoy the next 50 to 100 years," Matthew Newhard, of the Centennial Committee, said. The capsule includes an aerial photo of the borough, pamphlets from Walnutport's centennial celebration, the Walnutport Centennial book and the Walnutport Playground Association's 2009 carnival report. The slate that will cover the capsule was donated by Penn Big Bed Slate Co. Inc., 8450 Brown St., Slatington. A showcase, which was donated by the Centennial Committee and Northern Lehigh Future Focus, was also installed in Borough Hall. According to Newhard, the showcase displays what the Centennial Committee wanted people to be able to see on a daily basis. The showcase was put together by Billy Merkle, of Slatington.
