Nellie (Greenwood) Johnson, a resident of Heritage Hill Senior Community in Weatherly, is celebrating her 93rd birthday on April 24.
She was born in Halifax, Yorkshire County, England in 1917. Nellie also resided in Cregah, Belfast in Northern Ireland and New Jersey.
She graduated from high school and worked in Homphrey's Carpet Factory in Halifax. She married Horace Johnson on April 27, 1946.
In 1955 she came to America aboard the Queen Mary. Nellie was married to Horace for 50 years until his passing. She has two children, Alice Giunta, Frankford, N.J. and Stephen Johnson, Langhorne, Pa. She is the proud grandmother of six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Nellie was a member of the "Light Opera," and she enjoys dancing and singing. She sang in the church choir for 20 years.
She has traveled to Israel, Canada, Bermuda, and Scotland. In the past year she has been to England and South Carolina.
Nellie is currently involved in the Learn and Serve computer program at Heritage Hill, which allows her to keep in touch via the Internet to family from abroad and explore the World Wide Web.
