Franklin Township Volunteer Fire Co. busy raising funds

The Franklin Township Volunteer Fire Company and auxiliary members, based on Fairyland Road in Lehighton, have had a busy year thus far.

In addition to private bookings, the members have sponsored two dances, a three-day block party, indoor and outdoor flea markets, a giant three-day yard sale, filling and pizza sales, and bingos.

Other fundraising efforts included boot drives, basket raffles, a comedy show, and a car show and breakfast.

In addition, they’ve staffed stands for the sale of funnel cakes for events sponsored by other nonprofit organizations in Carbon County, participated in weekly training sessions, dedications and parades sponsored by brother firefighters and have been busy planning a multitude of improvements and renovations to the fire company and grounds.

As if that isn’t enough, the men and women of the fire company and auxiliary are excited to have another special event scheduled.

The country music band Nash East will perform for a dinner-dance and show at the fire company, 2440 Fairyland Road, Lehighton, on Nov. 17.

The band hails from Basking Ridge, New Jersey, and is one of the busiest working country bands in the New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania area. It has more than 400 performances over the past four years. It was chosen from country bands in the New York/New Jersey metro area to open for country singer Eric Church at the Prudential Center, and was selected by “The Colonel” to perform at the KFC worldwide corporate product launch of their new Nashville Hot Style Chicken.

Nash East also headlined on Country Music Day at Bethlehem’s Musikfest.

Nash East specializes in country-themed songs and will tailor musical sets toward “classic” as well as “contemporary” country music.

The band also offers several classic rock and southern rock songs by The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, CCR, The Who and others.

The Nov. 17 dinner-dance is open to the public. Doors will open at 5 p.m. with a buffet dinner to be served at 6 p.m. Tickets are $30 per person and a buffet meal, dessert, and on-tap beverages will be included.

A limited number of tickets are available by calling 570-401-4454.

Upcoming events at the fire company include:

• Boscov’s 25 percent discount card sales, Oct. 14

• Thursday night bingo, weekly, beginning at 6 p.m.

• Indoor flea market, Oct. 20

• Hunter’s day, Nov. 4

• Thanksgiving filling sale, Nov. 20

• Pizza sale, Nov. 26

• New Year’s Eve with the Mudflaps

Firefighters, fire police and auxiliary members agree that they are successful in their efforts because of all the support they’ve been offered by residents and friends in the surrounding communities.

As with all volunteer organizations, the Franklin Fire Company, its auxiliary and the fire police are always looking for volunteers. For information, contact fire company President Steve Warnkin, auxiliary President Diane Highland, fire police President Francis “Butch” Kresge or any member of the units.
