Derby party benefits Penn-Kidder library

“I’ll have a Mint Julep.” could be heard at Nick’s Lakeside Restaurant’s Kentucky Derby Party.

Colorful hats of all shapes and sizes were in abundance.

The fancier and bigger the better.

Sherry Thompson, from Bucks County turned her cowgirl style hat into a Derby special, with airplane bottles of Kentucky bourbons all around it and a mini horse on top. This event “Let’s me come out and play.” remarked Thompson.

Penn Kidder Library in Albrightsville receives proceeds from the 4th annual event. The library hosted a bake sale and chances to win a Woodford Reserve Kentucky Bourbon, donated by Nick’s.

Patrons had a chance to bet on the horses through the library’s derby game. A correct guess of which of the 22 horses would win earned 50% of the bets on that horse.

The crowd was entertained by host Dina Tulli Davis who sang, spun tunes, and offered prizes for trivia questions.

Davis said,” It’s a great event for the community. I was asked to come back for the third year. It’s a great time.”

Many attendees came to the area just for this fun annual event. Corinna Windon, from New Jersey, owns a house here and invited 7 friends for the weekend. They were all decked out in derby dresses and fancy hats, a few handmade.

Library volunteer and former board member Sherry Gibson-Scott said, “I am here to support the library and volunteer. I try to help the library anyway I can.”

Everyone clearly enjoyed the opportunity to support the library at this fun event with great food, music and the Kentucky Derby itself. Thanks were given to the Pantages family who owns Nick’s.

A total of $1,648 was raised.

The funds will go towards much needed technology upgrades at the library.
