Stroudsburg wrestling coach killed in crash

Stroudsburg Area School District’s athletic director was killed in a crash on Interstate 380 Saturday night.

Monroe County Coroner Thomas Yanac said Sean Richmond, 38, who was the district’s wrestling coach, died in a crash with a tractor trailer.

State police at Stroudsburg were called to mile marker 1.4 in Tobyhanna Township at 6:08 p.m. for a report of a pedestrian hit by a truck. State police, fire companies and EMS responded to the scene.

Police said Richmond was transported to St. Luke’s Hospital - Monroe campus where he died from injuries.

Stroudsburg Wrestling posted on Facebook Sunday, “It is with the heaviest of hearts that the Stroudsburg Wrestling Family shares the news of head coach Sean Richmond’s passing. Coach Richmond is an integral part of the greater Stroudsburg community and has dedicated his professional life to the students and athletes of the Stroudsburg Area School District. He leaves behind his beloved wife and daughters.”

A GoFundMe account has been set up to help the family with expenses.

State police are investigating and ask that anyone with information about the crash call the barracks at 570-619-6800.
