Huntre Keip of Summit Hill, was one of 11 Lebanon Valley College students recently represented the college at the annual simulated European Union parliamentary session in Washington, D.C. A culmination of the disciplinary perspectives course, the trip was organized by the colleges and universities of the Mid-Atlantic European Union Simulation Consortium.
Keip, a graduate of Panther Valley High School, is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in English and politics.
Each year the EU simulation conference addresses a different policy focus. This year, students debated two directives: one on the proposed Just Energy Transition Fund to help European countries that rely heavily on coal and other fossil fuels transition to clean energy by 2050; and another on digital privacy and services.
Students began the fall semester by studying the history, culture, and current political environment of Portugal and Cyprus, the countries they were assigned to represent at the conference. Students also studied how the EU operates, as well as its history and current issues and tensions.
