Slatington woman dies of crash injuries; other driver charged with burglary
The Lehigh County Coroner’s office said a Slatington woman has died of injuries sustained in a crash Wednesday afternoon in Allentown.
Kandi Jo Heller, 44, was pronounced dead on Wednesday at 9:58 p.m. at Lehigh Valley Hospital–Muhlenberg.
Heller was the driver of a motor vehicle involved in a collision with another motor vehicle. An autopsy was completed today at the Lehigh County Coroner’s Office & Forensic Center. The cause of death is blunt force injuries, and the manner of death is accident.
The crash occurred on Wednesday at 1:05 p.m. at the intersection of North 6th Street and Cedar Street in Allentown, Lehigh County.
In addition to the coroner’s office, the Pennsylvania State Police Bethlehem Station Patrol Unit and Criminal Investigation Unit, and the Lehigh County District Attorney’s Office are investigating.
Troopers from the Bethlehem Station were dispatched to the scene and it was determined a 2015 Chevrolet Suburban, operated by Kevin Abdiel Santiago, 24, of Allentown was driving at a high rate of speed, went through a stop sign and struck a Mercedes Benz in the intersection, causing the Mercedes Benz to strike a home located near the intersection of the crash.
After striking the Mercedes Benz, the operator of the Chevrolet Suburban fled from the scene and was later apprehended and taken into custody by troopers.
Heller and a passenger were transported to a local hospital for their injuries.
Santiago is charged with one count of burglary, 15 counts of being prohibited from having a firearm and 15 counts of receiving stolen property, all felonies.
This investigation is currently ongoing by the Bethlehem Station Criminal Investigation Unit and Bethlehem Patrol Unit.
