Beautiful weather helped make the 45th annual Franklin Township Volunteer Fire Company a big success.

The block party was held Friday and Saturday on the fire company grounds on Fairyland Road. Both days saw crowds of people out to enjoy entertainment, games, and plenty of delicious food.

South Penn Dixie took the stage Friday night, and Mystery City played Saturday. There was also the garden tractor pull and later, Pyro Joe’s Fireworks Spectacular Saturday after dark.

“We love the bands,” Mary Rehrig of Towamensing Township said, as she and her husband, Marvin, were waiting for South Penn Dixie to start playing. “This is a great night out for us.”

Nobody left the party hungry. The fire company’s kitchen was open, serving seafood dinners Friday and the many regular menu favorites both days, such as hot dogs, hamburgers, french fries, pierogies, barbecue, and more.

Other food and snack vendors also were on hand, including Kitty Kat Concessions, the Pocono Potato Chip Co., Bailey’s Candies, and Hoff’s Kettle Korn.

Rick and Mary Hoffman of Jim Thorpe were trying their luck at the money wheel, hosted by the Franklin Fire Company.

“I won,” Mary exclaimed as the wheel landed on her number. “I won ten dollars!”

Other fun and games included bingo, 50/50 drawings and raffles, the huge basket auction, a bounce house, and games of chance.

The block party is a long-standing tradition in Franklin Township, and helps the fire company raise the money needed for fire equipment, trucks, training, and maintenance of the grounds.
