Carbon County Commissioners

The Carbon County Commissioners took action on the following items on Thursday.

• Awarded Community Development Block Grant project bids that were opened on April 25 to Graver Industries Inc., doing business as Barker and Barker Paving of Bethlehem for street improvements along a portion of West Princeton Avenue in Palmerton at a cost of $126,218.75; Bracalente Construction Inc. of Northampton for street improvements along a portion of Avenue A in Palmerton at a cost of $65,945.90; and Stoney Lonesome Excavating of Summit Hill for a project at the Joe Andreuzzi Community Park in Packer Township at a cost of $68,350.

• Adopted the 2020 state operating financial assistance resolution for Carbon County Community Transit/LANTA, certifying the operating assistance of $260,937 and matching funds of no less than $39,141.

• Approved Local Share Account grant agreements with the Commonwealth Financing Agency in the amount of $169,069 on behalf of the Mauch Chunk Opera House and $158,338 for the Carbon County Emergency Operations and Fire Training Facility Project in Nesquehoning. The money for the opera house will be used to update the HVAC system, sound absorption system and stage curtains. The fire training facility project will be used for phase 1B, which is the construction of a burn tower. Both grants are effective until June 30, 2022.

• Approved an addendum to the agreement with Boyle Construction of Allentown due to the change in the scope of work on the Susquehanna Street project. Charges will be based on a time and material basis.

• Retirement: Jolaine A. Herman of Jim Thorpe, assessor, tax assessment, effective May 2.

• Hires: Brian P. O’Donnell of Jim Thorpe, part-time seasonal park maintenance, effective May 11; and Jessica R. Hollenbach of New Ringgold, lifeguard, effective June 10.
