Carbon County Commissioners

The Carbon County Commissioners discussed or acted on the following items during their weekly meeting on Thursday:

• Tom Lager of St. Mark’s and St. John’s Episcopal Church in Jim Thorpe presented the county with a plaque for their support of the church’s race for the last 15 years.

• Approved the reappointment of Carbon Engineering Inc. of Summit Hill as the county engineer for 2022 at the rates of $45 to $189 per hour.

• Approved an application to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation requesting revision 5 for the replacement of bridge 4, located on Grist Mill Drive over the Qua­kake Creek in Packer Township. The action increases the encumbrance amount to $601,000.

• Commissioner Rocky Ahner announced that the county received a $1,650 donation for the Carbon County Animal Shelter in memory of Michael Padgett.

• Date of hire correction: Mark J. Nordyke Jr. of Kunkletown, county caseworker II, Children and Youth, effective Nov. 8.

• Resignation: Coral C. Steigerwalt of Nesquehoning, part-time dispatcher trainee, 911 communications, effective Dec. 6.

• Changes of status: Derek D. George of Lehighton, from acting deputy warden to deputy warden, corrections, effective Nov. 29; and Jodi A. Sonon of Weissport, from collections coordinator, clerk of courts/bureau of collections, to Live Scan operator/corrections clerk, corrections, effective Dec. 20.

• Hire as recommended by supervisor: Amanda Belford of Jim Thorpe, part-time veterans outreach coordinator, Veterans Affairs, effective Dec. 13.
