BHA raises money for Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation
They worked as a team to dole out lemonade with the goal to raise as much money as possible for childhood cancer causes.
In doing so, the Behavioral Health Associates within the Intensive Social Skills Training at Willow Academy in Lehighton learned about the importance of helping others.
A total of $1,537 was raised during the fourth annual Alex’s Lemonade Stand Fountain, according to Jordan Kuhns, director of communications, Behavioral Health Associates.
Along with lemonade, there were hot dogs and snack chip bags that were sold to help raise funds, said Kuhns, who added the purpose of the event was to raise money for childhood cancer research and initiatives.
Last year’s event raised $1,800, Kuhns said, adding this year’s goal was to get to $2,000.
“It’s intermingled with our social skills training,” Kuhns said. “We’re here to provide those social skills and life skills to have confidence to interact and raise money in the community for a very worthwhile cause.”
Kuhns said there were about 25 students grades K-4 who did hour-long shifts.
“It’s a great opportunity for them to interact with the public, their peers, exchanging money,” he said. “This is providing that opportunity.”
Conner Czech, a fifth-grader, described what he liked most about the event.
“I love it, there’s (so many) people, and my friends,” Conner said. “We’re raising money for cancer.”
