Nearly 400 people were helped Saturday at the Valor Clinic Foundation’s Stand Down in Lansford on Saturday at the St. Luke’s Medical Center parking lot.
Marian Catholic High School students collected school supplies throughout the summer and were able to serve nearly 250 children. They provided backpacks, crayons, notebooks, pencils, glue, pens, rulers, markers and more.
Monetary donations were received from the Notre Dame Club of Schuylkill County, Knights of Columbus, and St. Joseph of the Panther Valley. The parishioners of St. Joseph of the Panther Valley held a collection in the church for items, and they also received a very generous donation from an anonymous donor.
Catholic Charities Community Cafe food truck provided more than 250 meals. VALOR provided clothing, nonperishables and toiletries. And Head Start and St. Luke’s were there with information booths
The last Stand Down for the year will be Oct. 17.
The Carbon County Office of Veterans Affairs is collecting new and used Halloween costumes in addition to hats, coats, gloves and more. Anyone with donations can contact cleclair@carboncountypa.gov
