Chestnuthill addresses water issues
The Chestnuthill Township supervisors spent a good portion of Tuesday night’s meeting addressing water issues and damage to township property owners.
“I have lived here for 24 years and we have had this problem for quite some time,” said homeowner Ray Dobbins.
The homeowner explained how the water comes down the hill and runs into a ditch on Rolling Pines and then all the way down to Route 715, filling the catch basins with water and debris. Then it flows onto his property and into his neighbor’s yard, where the water floods the homeowner’s flower gardens and then runs close to the foundation of his neighbor’s house.
Jim Fenton, Dobbins’ next-door neighbor, also voiced his fear that the water would cause harm to his foundation and the water that rushes across Route 715 could cause a crash.
Chestnuthill resident Dwayne Drew also came to ask what could be done about the flooding of his property, and Chairman Charles Gould and township Manager David Albright assured the residents that they are trying to find the solution and will look into what measures could be done to stop the water erosion.
“The problem is we have had so much rain and the ground is saturated with water, but we will continue to find a solution,” said Albright, and added that when they are working on residential properties to help with the flooding they have to stay within the right of way.

“We had a busy month. We had a Mountain Bike Day and 50 kids and on movie night, even though it was raining off and on, about 75 people attended. Also the Mad Scientist program that was attended by around 100 people. In the coming days we will have craft event this Friday, and from 1-6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 26, there is a free concert at Chestnuthill Park. Bring a blanket or chair and join us for two bands: Steel Creek with Knobby Whistlers. You can go on our Facebook page to find what events we have going,” he said.
