First-ever Weisstock Festival to be held in Weissport
A family fun festival will take place in Weissport this Labor Day weekend.
The inaugural Weisstock Festival will be held from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sept. 4 in the Weissport Borough Park.
Hosted by St. Peter’s Community Resource Center, the event seeks to raise funds for a new roof for the building, according to Nicole Baker, who serves as director of the board.
“The goal is to have a community event that’s something we can do year after year and use the funds to improve the buildings and programs we provide,” Baker said.
Baker said the event will consist of entertainment, food trucks, vendors and nonprofit stands, rides and games, a cake walk, limbo contest, and a basket raffle drawing.
Entertainment will see performances by Black Ties & Pearls from 10 a.m. to noon; Beach Loving Man/Caribbean Jeff from noon to 2 p.m., Damian Walck from 2-4 p.m., and Payne Shelton from 4-6 p.m.
Other fun-filled events will include a cake walk from 2-2:30 p.m., and a limbo contest from 6-7 p.m. Basket raffle ticket sales will take place from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., with the basket raffle drawing at 8:30 p.m.
Baker said the group previously held a homemade soup sale, homemade meal sale, and a drive-thru dunk tank.
She said St. Peter’s started out as a church and was converted into a community center, and that the bare necessities pantry is trying to expand to Jim Thorpe, Tamaqua and Palmerton.
“Because there’s nothing like that in this area,” she said. “There’s tons of food pantries, but not necessities. And we just want to be a hub for information to get them hooked up to those resources.”
Baker said she’s optimistic the Weisstock Festival will be a big hit in the community.
“We are hoping the community embraces the event and comes out to support all the different groups,” she said. “It’s not just for St. Peter’s, it’s (also) for the community and the people of the community.”
