Man charged for harassing father
A Nazareth man has been charged with criminal trespass for repeatedly showing up at his father’s home after slashing one of the tires on his vehicle.
According to the affidavit filed by trooper Anthony Kingsley of the Pennsylvania State Police, Lehighton barracks in the case against Curtis Phillips Jr.:
At 11:20 p.m. Aug. 12, the victim contacted PSP Lehighton and said that his son, Phillips Jr., 32, slashed his right front tire to his 2004 Red F150. The tire is valued at $200.
The victim said Phillips just got out of prison and that he had a valid Protection From Abuse against him, but that it expired about one month ago.
Phillips fled the scene.
Kingsley spoke with Phillips Jr. on Aug. 13 in the lobby of PSP Lehighton, when he said he studied law while in prison and that he is currently filing paperwork to have all the rights to his father’s house in Eldred Township.
Phillips Jr. said he was upset that his grandparents passed away while he was in prison, and they gave him the house verbally over the phone.
Kingsley told Phillips Jr. that he was not permitted to return to the residence, and he argued that there was nothing PSP was going to do if he did return, and he was again told not to return to the property.
Later that day, the victim contacted PSP Lehighton and said Phillips Jr. was back at the residence pounding on the front door. The victim told him to leave the property, as he was not allowed there anymore, and Phillips Jr. left the property.
Phillips Jr. later returned to the property and entered the garage, which is located below the living part of the dwelling.
The victim remained inside his residence until troopers arrived, but Phillips Jr. fled the scene before their arrival.
The victim said that Phillips Jr. made entry through a door that leads to the garage.
Later that day, the victim again called PSP Lehighton and said that Phillips Jr. was back on the property and was standing in the driveway behind his pickup yelling at him.
Phillips Jr. then proceeded onto the rear porch and tied a green garden hose to the railing and then to the doorknob preventing the door from opening, and then proceeded to drive his vehicle around the yard.
Troopers saw the victim in the window frantically waving his arms and pointing to the wooded area behind them.
Kingsley could hear the revving of a car engine in the distance, and saw headlights traveling at a high rate of speed through the woods.
Troopers made it to the wooded area and headed off Phillips Jr. at a trail head.
Phillips Jr. was instructed to turn the vehicle off and exit the vehicle, to which he complied.
He was taken into custody and searched on scene.
Kingsley then removed the green hose from the door to the residence and asked the victim if at any point Phillips Jr. was allowed to be at or was living at the residence, to which he stated he was not.
The victim said he was applying for a PFA at that time.
Phillips Jr. faces charges of criminal trespass; defiant trespass; criminal mischief; and harassment.
He is currently incarcerated in the Monroe County Prison in lieu of $50,000 bail, and scheduled to have a preliminary hearing Friday before District Judge Colleen Mancuso of Brodheadsville.
