LVHN doc charged with indecent assault

A doctor who served on Lehigh Valley Health Network's board of trustees has been accused of assaulting a woman who brought her child to an Allentown hospital for a scheduled visit.

Jarret Royce Patton, 43, of Exeter Township, Berks County, was charged with misdemeanor indecent assault May 11.

The charges were announced by the Lehigh County District Attorney's Office on Wednesday.

Authorities said that during an office visit that occurred on Feb. 25, 2016, Patton repeatedly rubbed his genitals up against a woman whose child was one of his patients.

The alleged assault occurred in an exam room at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Allentown, located at 17th and Chew streets in Allentown.

The woman told police that during the alleged assault she was unable to move away from Patton because he positioned his 6'5", 230 lb. body so that she could not.

She told authorities that Patton repeatedly rubbed up against her during the visit. She also reported that at one point, Patton reached behind her for a piece of equipment, "grinding himself into her leg and rubbing her back at the same time."

The district attorney's office said that Patton will be arraigned on the charges in the near future.

In the news release, the DA's office noted that Lehigh Valley Health Network and the Lehigh Valley Physicians Group cooperated fully with the investigation.

According to the hospital's 2015 annual report, Patton had served as President of its Medical Group, served on LVHN's board of trustees, and its senior management council.

LVHN spokesman Brian Downs provided the following statement when asked about Patton's employment status.

"We take the charges very seriously. At LVHN, our first priority is the care and safety of our patients. When we became aware of the allegation, we placed Dr. Patton on leave and removed him from all administrative and clinical responsibilities so the police could conduct an investigation. We cooperated fully with the police and gave them full access to our employees and records. We are not able to provide more details out of respect for the integrity of the legal process and individuals involved."
