Carbon County court

Two defendants in pending criminal cases entered guilty pleas Monday in Carbon County court.

The two appeared before Judge Steven R. Serfass.

Lehighton incident

Tanya Hosier,

41, of Lehighton, pleaded to one count each of resisting arrest and possession of drug paraphernalia.

She was arrested on May 8, 2019, when Lehighton police responded to the parking lot at the Gypsy Hill Garden Apartments concerning suspicious activity in a vehicle in the lot.

On scene officers found two females in the vehicle in question, one being Hosier. She first refused to get out of the vehicle. After getting her out of the vehicle she refused to let police put handcuffs on her and then struggled with officers when they attempted to place her in a police cruiser. Found on her was drug paraphernalia, a needle.

Hosier admitted to drug issues which she said she wants to address.

On the resisting charge Serfass placed her on probation for 18 months and ordered her to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and follow any recommendation for treatment and zero tolerance for drug or alcohol use. On the possession count she was placed on probation for six months, consecutive to the resisting charge. She must also render 100 hours of community service.

Search warrant

Michael T. Ross,

33, of Bangor, and formerly of Albrightsville, pleaded guilty to one count of possession of drug paraphernalia with a charge of possession of a controlled substance dropped in a plea deal with the district attorney’s office.

Ross was arrested on July 2, 2019, by state police at Fern Ridge after troopers served a search warrant at a residence in Penn Forest Township. Found in the residence, along with Ross, were baggies of heroin.

Ross’ plea was done by video from the Monroe County prison, where he is serving a one- to a day less two-year term on a firearms charge.

Serfass sentenced him to serve one to 12 months in prison, concurrent with the Monroe case, and ordered him to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and render 50 hours of community service when paroled.

Both defendants must also pay court costs of about $1,000 and a $50 per month supervision fee while on parole or probation.
