LANSFORD BOROUGH COUNCIL

Lansford Borough Council conducted the following business last week:

• Opened a fire escrow account of $31,337.49 for property owned by Sarah Troxell at 504 E. Kline Ave.

• Approved Bob Kresge as full-time borough street department employee.

• Approved free communitywide yard sale dates of May 4 and 5, and Aug. 10 and 11.

• Approved a payment of $450 to the Pennsylvania State Association of Boroughs for an annual membership, which includes free online training for council members and staff.

• Paid Carbon Engineering $2,000 in grant application fees for 2023 and 2024, and $100.50 in miscellaneous fees for the sewer grant application.

• Approved final subdivision plans for the sale of a tract of borough land to Ryan Eidle and $450 costs to file with the county. The costs will be reimbursed by Eidle.

• Approved a new water line and hot water heater for the concession stand in Ashton Park under a Greenways Trail and Recreation Program. The water authority agreed to extend the line to the concession stand, President Bruce Markovich said.

• Informally agreed to work with Julia Atiyeh, owner of Construction Clearance, a Lansford business that leases a building from the borough. Atiyeh said she was blindsided by a motion on council’s agenda to evict her business. Councilman Joseph Butrie rescinded the motion following a lengthy discussion.

• Noted that the borough plans to invest funds in accounts yielding higher interest to earn additional funds. The borough is looking at several banks as well as the Pennsylvania Local Government Investment Trust, Markovich said. Resident Bob Silver raised the issue of the borough not making money on funds, such as those held in the railroad account, for years.

• Tabled a new fee schedule following questions regarding the increases. Council plans to discuss the fees at a committee meeting.

• Approved special event requests from Lansford Alive to have concerts at Kennedy Park every Sunday June through September.
