Bingo fundraiser supports Palmerton Cat Project

An inaugural bingo and basket auction was held Sunday at Aquashicola Fire Company to support the Palmerton Cat Project. Chances are good they will hold another one.

Over 200 tickets were sold for the event, according to Stacy Goldberg, the new vice president of the Palmerton Cat Project.

“We sold out on tickets for the bingo. For the basket auctions, we had 75 items in the small basket auction and 15 in the larger auction. We had a 50/50, and everyone who donated items from our wish list was entered into drawing for door prizes.”

The event also featured a bake sale and food from the fire company’s kitchen.

The Palmerton Cat Project has been in operation since 2014 and became a 501c3 in 2017. The organization depends entirely on the community for donations and support.

“We go out and (trap, neuter and release) feral cat colonies, treat them if they have medical issues such as injuries or illness,” Goldberg explained. “We take some of the cats in to foster homes and prepare them for adoption.”

The group does not have a shelter, but relies on foster homes to take in the cats.

“We have kitten season starting now, and we are being bombarded with kittens now,” Goldberg said.

Since its founding in 2014, the Palmerton Cat Project has fostered more than 1,800 cats.
