Police: Charges pending against Summit Hill man

A Summit Hill man fled from police who were investigating a report of a person walking down the middle of Route 209 in Lansford Sunday morning.

Lansford police responded to the 100-block of West Patterson Street for a report of a person, possibly on drugs, walking down the middle of the highway at 7:09 a.m.

They located the man, who then ran and eluded officers. An hour later, officers located Alan Kovacs, 35, of Summit Hill, who has several open bench warrants and a probation warrant, police said.

Kovacs appeared to have severed the top portion of his left thumb, possibly while evading officers, police said. He was taken to the hospital for treatment, and then turned over to the Carbon County Sheriff’s Office, police said.

Lansford residents are asked to check their homes for a possible break-in in the 100-blocks of West Patterson and West Ridge streets. Lansford police advise residents to report any suspicious activity, and if they see something, say something.

Charges are pending against Kovacs, police said.
