Advent events

Tonight, at 6 p.m., Our Lady Queen of Peace Church is hosting a dinner, followed by an Advent presentation. On Sunday, at 4:30 p.m., there will be an Advent Penance service.

Meeting canceled

The Eldred Township Planning Commission meeting scheduled for this evening is canceled.

The next regular meeting of the Planning Commission will be at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2024.

Mission meal

Tomorrow at 4:30 p.m., Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Brodheadsville, will again serve its West End Missions Meal.

K of C meeting

The Knights of Columbus, meeting at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church will gather again at 7 p.m., Thursday.

WELL meeting

The West End Little League has its board of directors meeting is on the calendar for 7:30 p.m., tomorrow, at the Chestnuthill Township Park.

The open League meeting is at 7:30 p.m. next Thursday.

Men’s breakfast

After the 8 a.m. service held on the third Saturday of the month at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, a breakfast is served.

Effort men

The Men’s Group at Effort UMC will meet in the kitchen at 9 a.m., Saturday.

Picture time

American Legion Post 927, Gilbert, is having an open-to-community event Saturday.

From 4 to 6 p.m. there will be opportunity to have a picture taken with Santa. For more details call the Legion at 610-681-5838.

Christmas pageant

St. Matthew’s UCC will present its Christmas pageant during the 9 a.m. worship service Sunday.

It is entitled Faith & Fondant.

After the presentation, the cast and crew will gather in the church’s downstairs for activities and snacks until it is time to depart for Mrs. Bush’s at 10:10 for a performance there.

That performance will begin at 10:30 a.m.

Christmas tea

Zion Lutheran, Brodheadsville, is hosting a Christmas tea after the 10:30 a.m. worship on Sunday.

Worshippers are invited to join in the parish hall for fun, fellowship and food.

After the tea, sandwiches and cookies, the sanctuary will be decorated for Christmas.

Shawl Ministry

Effort UMC’s Prayer Shawl Ministry will meet at 10 a.m. Tuesday. Those shawls then go to support folks locally and in far distant places, ministering to folks in need around the world.

WE Republicans

The next regularly scheduled meeting of the West End Republican Club is Tuesday at Cherry’s Restaurant in Kresgeville.

The meeting begins at 7 p.m. but those who plan to eat or socialize there are asked to come at 6 p.m.

La Posada event

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church is celebrating La Posada, an Advent event, next Wednesday.

Placing wreaths

This year’s Wreaths Across America Day will take place on Dec. 16. On that day, more than 2 million Veterans’ Wreaths will be placed across local, national and military cemeteries as well as Veterans’ Memorials and historic sites, including at sea and abroad.

It is a mission to remember, honor and teach: to remember the fallen, honor those that serve-or have served- and their families, and teach the next generation of the value of Freedom.

Each wreath placed on National Wreaths Across America Day is a sponsored wreath, for a set cost.

Lions meeting

The Western Pocono Lions Club will meet at noon on Dec. 21 at Cherry’s in Kresgeville.

Winter Solstice

Monroe County Conservation District’s Environmental Education Center-Winter Solstice All Level Adult Yoga Class will be held from 6 to 7 p.m., Dec. 21, in the Gallery at Kettle Creek.

Pre-registration is needed. There is a cost, payable on day of program in either cash or check.

Christmas Eve services

Cornerstone Community Church will have a Christmas Eve Candlelight Service at both the 10:30 a.m. and the 5 p.m. services.

Nursery & Toddler childcare will be available at the 10:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. services.

There will be for ages Preschool to 4th grade during 10:30 a.m. worship and for Grade K- to 4th during the 5 p.m. worship.

Effort UMC will be combining its 8:30 and 11 a.m. services on Dec. 24 and holding one service at 10 a.m.

In the evening, services will be held at 4, 6 and 8 p.m.

McMichaels UMC is holding a regular service Sunday morning at 9:30 a.m. and a Communion service Christmas Eve at 7 p.m.

Pleasant Valley Presbyterian, Brodheadsville, will have its Christmas Eve service at the regular 10 a.m. worship time. One can also choose the Candlelight service at 5 p.m.

Salem-St. Paul’s Lutheran, Kresgeville, will have Christmas Eve services with carols and Communion at 2:30 and 7:30 p.m. and on Christmas Day services will be at 8:30 and 10:30 with Christmas carols.

St. John’s Lutheran, Effort, has announced it is having a morning service for Christmas Eve at 9:30 a.m., on the 4th Sunday of Advent, Dec. 24.

A second Christmas Eve service, at 7 p.m. in the evening, also on Dec. 24, will be a candlelight service.

St. Matthew’s UCC, Kunkletown, will have services at 9 a.m. and 7 p.m., on Dec. 24.

Zion Lutheran, Brodheadsville, will hold two candlelight service on Christmas Eve. The first is at 3:30 p.m., the second at 7:30 p.m.

The services will also be broadcast on Zion’s Facebook page.

Free Christmas dinner

Zion Lutheran is accepting reservations now for either a ham or turkey dinner with all the holiday trimmings for Dec. 25.

Drive-through pickup times will be assigned beginning with 1 p.m. Call the church office to make the reservation at 570-992-6988.

Anyone planning an event for 2024 can rent Zion’s hall. For cost, availability, and other information one can call the church office at 570-992-6988.

Winter Day Camp

Monroe County Conservation District’s Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center is offering a Winter Day Camp on from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Dec. 28.

Wildly Wintertime Day Camp is a full day winter experience at Kettle Creek, for ages 7-11. There will be outdoor and indoor environmental activities that are fun and educational, led by experienced staff.

Attendees need to bring to camp: lunch, snack, reusable water bottle, backpack, extra clothing, hiking shoes or boots. To register or with any questions, including cost to attend, and directions call the E.E. Center at 570-629-3061, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and some Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. or visit the website, www.mcconservation.org

Payment is due at the time of registration. Registration deadline is Dec. 21.

Block shoot & more

The Kunkletown Rod & Gun Club will hold its first block shoot & meat raffle of the New Year on Jan. 7, beginning at 11 a.m.

The location is 122 Gun Club Lane, Saylorsburg.

It is 12-gauge shotgun only. The public is welcome.
