Santa lights Jim Thorpe Christmas tree

The rain did not stop Santa Claus from visiting Josiah White Park at the train station in Jim Thorpe to light the Christmas tree Friday night.

Vendors and entertainment were canceled because of the weather, but Santa arrived courtesy of the Jim Thorpe Fire Department and greeted children and adults.

Jim Thorpe Mayor Michael Sofranko welcomed those who braved the weather.

“I would like to thank the Chamber of Commerce for once again having the celebration downtown,” Sofranko said. “ This is our second tree lighting in two nights, plus the Bach and Handel Chorale holding their Christmas Concert Saturday at St. Joseph’s Church. Jim Thorpe has really turned into Christmas Town USA.”

Sofranko turned the microphone over to Santa, who led the countdown, and the official borough Christmas tree was lit. Santa then posed for photos at the tree.
