CCTI students excel in the SkillsUSA competition

Harold Resh, the instructor for the Auto Service and Technology Department addressed the CCTI’s Joint Operating Committee along with Aide John Rogers, and Savannah Klotz, a senior from Palmerton in the AST program.

Savannah Klotz addressed the Joint Operating Committee.

“I have competed in Skill (Skills-USA), I’ve competed in DECA, I’ve actually gotten first place in DECA,” she said. “I’ve competed in the automotive services marketing competition. I didn’t even have to study for that. Whatever I had in my brain was what I learned from these two (Harold Resh and John Rogers).”

Klotz plans to attend the University of Northwestern Ohio pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Motorsports Marketing with an Associates Agree in Automotive Training.

Resh pointed out that four students from the AST department placed in the top three at the SkillsUSA District competitions in December.

Bruce McFarland, a junior from Jim Thorpe, placed first in the Automotive Maintenance & Light Repair category. Damon Eckhart, a junior from Palmerton, placed 3rd in the Automotive Service Technology category. Both students competed in the competition at Luzerne County Community College.

Ella Sittler, a freshman from Lehighton, won first place in the Freshmen Action Skills category. Angelika Gines, a Senior from Panther Valley, won first place in the Senior Job Interview category. Sittler and Gines both competed at Johnson College.

Kevin Kuehner, the SkillsUSA Advisor for CCTI, attended the state SkillsUSA Competition held April 3 to 5 in Hershey. Kuehner thanked the members of the Joint Operating Committee for allowing CCTI students to participate in the state level of competition for SkillsUSA.
