WE artist

The works of Claudia Hill and Joan Lech are now on display in the Gallery at Kettle Creek and will be through Oct. 31 at the Monroe County Conservation District’s Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center.

A meet the artists event is set for 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.

Hill will have a display of historical uses of gourds and Lech will have tools on display that she uses for carving and turning her artwork.

Legion Auxiliary

The American Legion Auxiliary of Post 927, Gilbert, is slated to meet tonight at 7 p.m.

Spanish class

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church is hosting a Spanish class beginning tomorrow at 1 p.m. in the Cafe’.

WELL meeting

The West End Little League Board of Directors has a board meeting on its calendar for 7:30 p.m. Thursday, at the Chestnuthill Township Park building.

That is a closed meeting.

The public meeting follows next Thursday, also at 7:30 p.m.

WE Missions

A meal hosted by West End Missions will be served at 4:30 p.m. tomorrow at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church.

Senior luncheon

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church hosts a senior luncheon on the third Monday after the 12:10 Mass each month.

Youth Ministry

The two groups of Youth Ministry at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church: Living 4:12 will meet tonight, and the Teens of Peace will meet Tuesday.

Primetimers meet

Pleasant Valley Assembly of God Church hosts its Primetimers Ministry the second Friday of the month.

The group, of those 50 or older, will meet at noon this Friday for lunch and then to paint pumpkins.

Dinner pickup

Folks who ordered a takeout ham dinner from Salem-St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Kresgeville, are reminded that said dinners must be picked up on Saturday between 4 and 5:30 p.m.

Baby shower

Altar and Rosary at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church is collecting donations for Shepherds Maternity House where three women are expecting boys.

The need is for boys’ clothes birth to 6 months. Also needed are baby lotions, shampoo, etc. and other assorted baby items but no used car seats.

Church yard sale

Pleasant Valley Assembly of God Church Girls Ministries, Brodheadsville, is holding a yard sale Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Smoking is not allowed on the site.

Breakfast served

McMichaels UMC is holding a donation-only breakfast from 8 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday. The complete breakfast includes beverages.

Music will be provided by a band led by Dennis Maida.

Pantry open

The food pantry at Effort UMC will be open from 10 a.m. to noon, Saturday.

Touch of Home benefit

The Brodheadsville NAPA store, 523 Marion Lane, Brodheadsville, has announced an in-store activity that includes breakfast, coffee and in-store deals and a donation drive for Operation Touch of Home on Saturday, as per Touch of Home benefit announcement.

Halloween Event

The Chestnuthill Park, Brodheadsville, will host a Halloween Spooktacular from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.

Museum open

The Ross Township Historical Society museum will be open Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and every second Saturday of each month thereafter at the same time.

There is no charge for admission and all are welcome to view photographs, artifacts and items specific to historical Ross Township. We are located at 258 Anchorage Road, Saylorsburg.

Dog Day held

Pleasant Valley Presbyterian Church, 150 Pilgrim Way, Brodheadsville, right by the library, is hosting a community event, Day of the Dog, on Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m.

It will include demonstrations by Northeast Search & Rescue, hay rides, bouncy house, games, face painting, karate demos, craft vendors, basket raffles and a fun game of tug of war - people v. dogs. There will also be adoptable dogs at the event for anyone who is interested in adopting and the snack shack will be open for food & drinks.

This happening is open to all and a release of liability form must be signed for all in attendance.

Sunday breakfast

The private pilots of EAA 839 will hold their final All-You-Can Eat Pancake Breakfast of 2023 on Sunday, serving from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The breakfast offers two types of pancakes - buttermilk and chocolate chip - sausages, breakfast cake, orange juice and coffee.

This month, classic cars will be showcased, along with the free Young Eagle flights for children aged 8-17, demonstrations by para motorists and parachutists, and displays of hot air balloons and Kids Building Planes.

The breakfast is rain or shine; other features are weather contingent. Free parking.

EAA 839’s hangar is located at Pegasus Airfield, 222 Hickory Lane, Sciota.

Hispanic event

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church is hosting a Celebration of Hispanic Heritage on Sunday, beginning with a Spanish Mass at 1 p.m.

At 2:15 p.m. typical dances by countries, typical foods and many more surprises are promised.

They will be inside the Parish Hall.

Harvest Home

Zion Lutheran, Brodheadsville, is celebrating Harvest Home Sunday at its various service this weekend and is also accepting All Saints carnation orders. Said order must be placed and paid for no later than this coming Sunday.

In addition to any produce from fall gardens, canned and dry goods will be collected for PVEN.

The church is planning to have a free community Christmas Day dinner, pickup style.

One will have to place an order at 570-992-6988 and pickup times will be assigned.

Donations of hams, turkeys, stuffing bread cubes (not boxed stuffing mix) apples, oranges, individual applesauce packets, dinner rolls, cranberry sauce, and deserts-including cakes or pies, will be accepted for the event.

New Member Night

Western Pocono Women’s Club is celebrating New Member Night on Monday, beginning at 6 p.m., at Effort UMC. A pot luck covered dish dinner will be featured, with members bringing appetizer, salad, veggie or meat dish of their choosing.

The Refreshment Committee will provide desserts and beverages.

Bingo night

American Legion Post 927, Gilbert, is hosting its open-to-the-public Bingo Night on Monday, with play beginning at 6:30 p.m.

Cards can be purchased beginning at 6 p.m.

Free dinner

Zion Lutheran, Brodheadsville, is hosting a free community dinner by way of drive-through pickup, from 5 to 6 p.m. next Wednesday.

TOPS celebration

Take Off Pounds Sensibly 1113 in Kresgeville is hosting a 75th Birthday Celebration of the founding of the weight loss support group at 5:30 p.m., next Wednesday, at Salem-St. Paul Lutheran Church in Kresgeville.

The current chapter invites folks to learn more of how to achieve weight loss and sustain that weight loss through the KOPS program. There will be a social hour and light refreshments will be offered.

Women, Wine and Wisdom is the theme of a fundraiser for Pocono Transitional Housing being held from 5 to 8 p.m. next Wednesday at Saylorsburg Blue Ridge Winery’s event tent.

Roast beef dinner

St. Peter’s United Methodist Church, Saylorsburg, will hold its Autumn roast beef dinner on Oct. 21, serving from 3:30 to 7 p.m. Drive-through pickup only.

Each dinner includes roast beef, mashed potatoes, gravy, corn, homemade coleslaw, roll and dessert.

Preorders are requested, but not required.

Pie crust sale

Zion Lutheran is holding a pie crust sale for single-crust pies, with orders/payment taken through Oct. 22 and pickup from 1 to 4 p.m. Nov. 2, and 9 to 11 a.m. Nov. 5

Pie crusts will be freshly made and individually packaged in aluminum pie tins.

Chicken Barbecue

Polk Township Volunteer Fire Co. is holding a pickup takeout chicken BBQ, from 2 to 4 p.m. Oct. 22.

To get tickets contact the volunteers via Facebook, get in touch with any firefighter or Social member or call 610-681-4370 and leave full name, phone number for call back and number of tickets needed and fire company personnel will meet you at the firehouse to give your ordered tickets.

Bird seed sale

Monroe County Conservation District’s Environmental Education Center has scheduled its truckload wild bird seed sale with extras available for Oct. 28. Featured is Aspen song bird seed blends.

Also available will be black oil sunflower seed, thistle, suet and several other specialty mixes.

Deadline for birdseed orders is Oct. 20.

Extra Bird Seed will be available on the day of the sale on a first-come, first-serve basis on Saturday, Oct. 28 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Food truck visit

St. John’s Lutheran, Effort, is hosting a Vince’s Food Truck visit from noon to 6 p.m. Oct. 27.

Available will be steak sandwiches, cheese steaks, pierogies and fries. Baked goods and beverages will be available to purchase for take out or eat in to benefit the church.

Harvest Fest-plus

Cornerstone Community Church, on Polk Township Road, Kresgeville, is hosting its second annual Fall Harvest Fest & Trunk or Treat event from 1 to 3 p.m. Oct. 28.

It is a community-free event and will include harvest-themed trunks with treats, games, crafts, face painting, popcorn, cotton candy, hot cocoa, coffee and free food and more.

The church is also a participating site for the local aspect of the Operation Christmas Child program and will have information, boxes and labels for that program available in due time.

Holiday meal

McMichaels UMC has announced it is serving a free Thanksgiving meal to anyone in the community, beginning at 2 p.m. Nov. 23.

Reservations must be made by calling 610-597-1030. There will be no takeout meals.

The church considers it a blessing: to share a meal and fellowship with others from the community.
