State police at Hazleton - thefts

State police in Hazleton report on the following crashes:

• A 78-year-old Hazle Township woman is out $9,500 in a theft by deception case.

Police said they were called at 3:33 p.m. April 26 to South Providence Road in the township were the victim told them an unknown actor used an artificial intelligence voice over of a relative to state the relative was in the City of Philadelphia correctional facility needed to post bail. The woman said she provided the cash to an unknown man reporting to be a bail bondsman in the driveway of the victim’s residence.

• Police are investigating the theft of a debit and credit card and $42 in cash that belonged to an elderly Weatherly woman.

Police said the 77-year-old woman reported she left her wallet at the Health and Wellness Center, Hazle Township, at 9:30 a.m. Feb. 24 and the cards and cash were lost and stolen from it.
