Carbon County officials have approved a new contract agreement with one of its unions.

On Thursday, the board of commissioners unanimously approved a memorandum of understanding with Teamsters Local Union 773, which covers Carbon County Correctional Facility sergeants. The new contract runs through Dec. 31, 2025 and calls for a 4% wage increase in 2023, and 2.5% increases in both 2024 and 2025.

According to annual salary board exhibits, the salaries for sergeants range from $23.57 to $25.75 per hour.

During the last negotiations with this union, six sergeants received 12% raises the first year to bring them up to the level that was necessary based on their responsibilities. At that time, hourly wages were between $19.83 and $22.99.

Carbon County has a total of five unions that represent about a quarter of the employees.

Other union contracts are not up for negotiations at this time.
