Polk Twp. updates COVID-19 policy

Polk Township began discussion of updating its COVID-19 worker policy in July and voted 3-0 to accept the updated language at Monday’s monthly meeting.

The discussion centered around the uncertainty of how many paid sick days the township should be paying those who test positive, as well as those who are not sick but in quarantine.

Solicitor James Fareri looked at other local municipalities’ policies and current CDC guidelines.

The township will be pay for the first time an employee is out sick with COVID. For the second time and thereafter, the employee will use their paid time off, Fareri said.

With the updated language, those colleagues who may have been exposed do not have to quarantine. They are to take precautions such as wearing a mask and testing. They can remain at work unless they test positive.

In other business:

• Supervisors announced that trick-or-treating will be Oct. 31 from 4 to 7 p.m.

• The township will again hire Bruce George’s Paving and Excavating to help with snow plowing on an as-needed basis.

• Supervisors approved zoning officer Tracy Hermann’s request to attend classes and a regional forum in October and November.

• The Environmental Education Day is this Sunday from 12 to 4 p.m. at the Polk Township Walking Park, 121 Park Twp. Road, Kresgeville. It is a free event with many activities, including music, cider pressing, wildlife presentation, various participating organizations, and kids crafts.
