Carbon DA issues statement about LASD data exposure
Carbon County District Attorney Michael S. Greek has announced that his office is aware of the issues raised by employees, retirees and beneficiaries regarding the public posting and display of social security numbers on a website.
Greek stated that “local jurisdiction in situations such as this may be statutorily limited, but our office has been and continues to consult and share information with state and federal authorities regarding this matter.”
Those who feel that their personal information was compromised may, but are not required, to contact either the Lehighton Area School District, the Carbon County District Attorney’s Office, the Lehighton or Franklin Township police departments. Greek also advised “that it is always a good idea to consult with a civil attorney regarding other remedies available under the law.”
If an individual feels their Social Security Number was published it is advised to take the following steps to prevent identity theft:

c. TransUnion 1-800-680-7289
2. Report the exposure to the Federal Trade Commission Identity Theft Site
3. Notify the IRS at the IRS Identity Protection Page or call 1 800-908-4490
4. Monitor and Check your Credit Reports for unauthorized activity by visiting Annual Credit Report.
5. Block electronic access to your SSA Record. If you are highly concerned about misuse of your social security or work history, contact the Social Security Administration directly at 1-800-772-1213 to temporarily block all automated access to your SSN record.
