Pleasant Valley moves teachers as part of grade realignment

As part of Pleasant Valley School District’s realignment of grades, the school board approved the transfers of 52 teachers to different school buildings during their meeting on Thursday night.

The realignment is moving the third grade to the intermediate school, and the sixth grade to the middle school.

Among the transfers is Lorelle Battle, a school counselor at Pleasant Valley Elementary School, to the high school, but that actually isn’t going to happen, because her resignation was also on the agenda for the evening and was approved.

As for the other teachers whose assignments are changing, the agenda only listed the school building changes. It did not list what the teachers taught last school year, but that information was available for most of them on their former school’s websites.

Superintendent James Konrad said in an interview that the changes are based on the realignment of grades, but also on the teachers’ certifications.

“We want to make sure people are comfortable,” he said.

As far as hiring middle school music teachers to replace the two that left, Konrad said they are working on it, but are currently interviewing candidates for the assistant principal position at the intermediate school.

The teachers moving from PVES to the intermediate school and their assignments include: Jody Berube, educational consultant K-12 and special education; Colleen Clauson, third-grade math, science and social studies; Diana Davenport, special education; Kelsey DeLuise, third-grade teacher; Donna Cimino, third-grade math, science and social studies; April Evans, third-grade teacher; Nick Farkas, third-grade teacher; Adrianne Keefer; Catrina Lemoine, third-grade math, science and social studies; Tara Liddy, third-grade teacher; Danielle Lukashewski, third-grade science; Kelley McElmoyle, third-grade reading teacher; Laura Mogerly, art and STREAM; Kim Smith, third-grade reading specialist; Kelly Williams, third-grade English language arts; and Kristin Wolf, third-grade teacher.

Two PVES teachers are moving to the secondary schools. Christina Shoemaker, who was the choir director for both elementary and high schools, will now be at the middle and high schools. Kelsey Tompkins, who was a health and physical education at the elementary and high schools, will now be only at the high school.

Amanda Altemose, a seventh- and eighth-grade English to Speakers of Other Languages teacher, will work with students at both the middle and high schools.

And three PVIS teachers are moving to the high school. They are Tim Hinton, seventh-grade learning support; Cindy Siekonic, seventh- and eighth-grade German teacher; and Loretta Snyder, eighth-grade English.
