State police at Lehighton report on crashes

State police at Lehighton report on the following crashes:

• Kimberly A. Clark, 50, of Palmerton, was charged with failure to drive at a safe speed following a one-vehicle crash at 4:09 p.m. Dec. 28 on Route 248 in Lower Towamensing Township.

Police said she sustained suspected minor injuries and was transported to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township, by Northern Valley EMS personnel.

Police said she was driving a 2004 Jeep Liberty eastbound at a high rate of speed when she lost control of the vehicle and it struck the concrete divider, then spun clockwise, traveled into the right lane and off the shoulder where it struck tree.

The Jeep sustained heavy damages and was towed from the scene.

• Police said a 2017 Volkswagen Golf needed to be towed after it struck a deer on the Little Gap Road in Lower Towamensing Township.

The mishap happened at 7:07 a.m. Dec. 20 when the deer entered the roadway in front of the car and was struck by the vehicle operated by Brian E. Hamill, 33, of Emmaus. He was uninjured, police said.

• State police cited George W. Van Varick, 75, of Saylorsburg, after a two-vehicle crash at 2:46 p.m. Dec. 8 on Old Route 115 in Ross Township.

Police said he was driving a 2015 Subaru Outback that pulled out of a parking lot at a Sunoco Gas Station and entered the path of a northbound 2012 Nissan Sentra driven by Elizabeth E. Whitmore, 51, of Saylorsburg, causing the collision.

No one was injured, police said.

• Police said no one was hurt in a mishap that happened on ‘extremely icy’ Long Run Road in Franklin Township at 3:14 a.m. Dec. 22.

Police said Jesse O. Brown, 45, of Tamaqua, was driving a 2016 International Harvester tri-axle and was salting the road when it began to slide on a slight left curve in the road. He hit a 2017 Honda Accord driven by Craig D. Curreri, 19, of Albrightsville.

• “Black ice” was blamed for a one-vehicle crash reported at 11:40 p.m. on Dec. 21 along Nelson Drive in Chestnuthill Township, Monroe County.

Police said Riley C. Wasdyke, 19, of Kunkletown, was driving a 2016 Honda Civic eastbound when the vehicle hit a patch of black ice causing Wasdyke to lose control. The vehicle left the road and hit a tree where it came to rest.

Wasdyke was not injured but the Civic had to be towed.
