Tamaqua teen earns Eagle Scout rank

Alex Porambo of Tamaqua received the rank of Eagle Scout at a court of honor held recently at the Summit Hill Heritage Center.

Since joining Scouting in 2012, Alex has held numerous leadership positions within the troop, including assistant patrol leader, patrol leader, assistant senior patrol leader and OA unit representative. To date he has earned 51 merit badges covering a broad range of life skills, such as pioneering, medicine, search and rescue and engineering.

Alex’s peers in the troop nominated him for membership into the Order of the Arrow, a select group of highly devoted and motivated Scouts into which he was inducted in September 2019.

Alex’s Eagle Scout service project benefited East End Park located in Tamaqua. The project consisted of building two new seesaws, repairing two existing seesaws and repairing a sandbox.

State Sen. David Argall and state Rep. Jerry Knowles were among several of the local government officials and dignitaries who sent congratulatory letters and certificates.

Alex, 16, is a sophomore at Marian Catholic High School, where he has achieved honors each quarter academically. Alex participates in varsity cross country and track and field.

He also participates in Students Against Destructive Decisions, Catholic Relief Services and is a student ambassador for Marian High School.

Alex plans to attend college after graduation to major in the field of information technology. His parents are Matthew and Andrea Porambo, and he has a 14-year-old sister, Alyssa.
