Carbon County commissioners
The Carbon County Commissioners acted on or discussed the following items during their weekly meeting on Thursday.
• Approved a proposal with Weatherproofing Technologies Inc. of Beachwood, Ohio, to perform a nuclear scan on sections of the administration building to identify wet insulation areas at a cost of $3,190. The proposal includes updated recommendations following the scan.
• Approved a proposal with Diefenderfer Electrical Contractors of Allentown to rewire the administration building at a cost of $19,400.
• Approved the award of funding for $60,640 from the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency for the continuing county adult probation and parole grant for the term of July 1 through June 20, 2022.
• Accepted the resignation of Ginny Compton from the Carbon County Planning Commission, effective Dec. 31.
• Approved an agreement with James Dodson of Summit Hill to oversee and train two current sheriff’s office employees regarding the countywide JNET and CLEAN operations and all required audits while reporting directly to the sheriff or the sheriff’s designee. The agreement runs through Dec. 31, 2022. The compensation will be $25 per hour, not to exceed 500 hours, plus mileage if applicable.
• Approved a contract with Axon Enterprise Inc. of Scottsdale, Arizona, for the purchase of 25 Tasers plus supplies for the sheriff’s department. The agreement is for five years and will cost $68,787.51.
• Ratified closing a safe-deposit box for the Area Agency on Aging at Key Bank in Palmerton due to lack of use within the last five years.
• Approved an agricultural operations agreement with Lil-Rus Farms of Tamaqua for certain land use within the boundaries of Mauch Chunk Lake Park for the purpose of raising crops. The agreement is for three years with a review on or before Jan. 6, 2024, to see if the operation should continue.
• Modify an agreement with Raising the House to include Dec. 30 as an operation day for the drive-thru holiday light display at Mauch Chunk Lake Park. The event still takes place the evenings of Dec. 26 and 30, as well as Jan. 2.
• Commissioners’ Chairman Wayne Nothstein announced that the annual swearing-in of elected officials will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Jan. 3 in courtroom 1. The salary board will then meet for its annual board meeting at 2 p.m. on Jan. 3 with the commissioners meeting to immediately follow.
• Commissioner Rocky Ahner thanked all the county employees for their work throughout the year. He also commended the food distribution sites for the dedication they have for their community.
• $4,800 in donations was received for the Carbon County Animal Shelter recently and Ahner sent out a thank you to all who donated.
• The board recognized longtime employee Francis G. “Franky” Rossino of Jim Thorpe, who is retiring on Dec. 31. Rossino has worked in the county for 42 years and is currently in the buildings and grounds department. Nothstein said Rossino has a “heart of gold” and will be hard to replace.

• Employment separation: Michael A. Moore of Lehighton, corrections officer, effective Dec. 16.
• Change of status: Breena K. Coxe of Weatherly, from part-time dispatcher to 911 operator, effective Jan. 10, 2022.
