Council honors Summit Hill mayor

Outgoing Summit Hill Mayor Paul McArdle, who served in that position for the past two decades, was honored by the borough council at Monday’s meeting.

The mayor chose not to seek re-election this year. He was mayor since 2001 and before that was a member of the borough council for two years.

Council President Michael Kokinda presented him a clock plaque.

Councilman William O’Gurek then presented McArdle resolutions from state Rep. Jerry Knowles and state Sen. John Yudichak.

Adding to the accolades, he was presented a plaque by the Diligence Fire Company naming him “Volunteer of the Year.” He has been a volunteer fire police member for many years.

The fire company plaque was presented by John Kennedy, captain of the fire police unit.

Also offering complementary remarks was Lou Vermillion, chairman of the Summit Hill Shade Tree Commission, who said McArdle was instrumental in forming the commission.

McArdle congratulated the incoming mayor, Jeffrey Szczecina.

After being awarded the plaques, McArdle was asked to speak.

He humbly said, “It was an honor. Thank you so much.”

The council also recognized outgoing council member Deb Ranck, who attended her final meeting after serving for a four-year term on the council.
