Monroe teen facing charges after crashing into police car

A Monroe County teen is facing charges after he led police on a chase which ended up with him crashing into a state police cruiser.

State police at Stroudsburg said the incident began at 6:59 p.m. on Monday along Commons Court at Milford Road in Smithfield Township. Troopers said they saw the driver of a black Honda Accord commit several vehicle code violations. Troopers initiated their emergency lights and siren to attempt a vehicle stop but the driver accelerated away. The driver made a U-turn and troopers were able to position their patrol vehicle in front of the Honda in an attempt to stop it. The Honda struck the marked patrol car two separate times in an attempt to get past the patrol vehicle. As the Honda started to pass the patrol vehicle troopers performed a precision immobilization technique (metal strips across the road), which terminated the pursuit.

The driver was taken into custody and identified as Secario Goodwin, 18, of Tobyhanna. He was charged with 10 counts including two counts of aggravated assault - attempt to cause bodily harm, felony 1; attempting to elude police, felony 3; institutional vandalism, felony 3; and two misdemeanor counts of resisting arrest and four summary motor vehicle code violations.

He was arraigned before a district judge and committed to the county prison in Snydersville under $50,000 straight cash bail.
