Tamaqua area school board

The Tamaqua Area School Board held its regular meeting June 15 at the Tamaqua Middle School. An executive session was held before the general meeting to discuss legal and personnel matters.

The board passed a number of recommendations at the meeting:

• Authorized the Tamaqua Area Booster Board to apply for a small games of chance license

• Pay-to-participate fees: First Sport $40 (or $30, if annual donation received); Second Sport $30 (or $20, if annual donation received); Third Sport $20 (or $10, if annual donation received)

• Class of 2022 prom, to be held May 7, 2022, at Capriotti’s, McAdoo.

• Appointments: John Buglio, Conyngham, volunteer band assistant; substitute custodians at a rate of $10.41 per hour, Jillian Tite of New Ringgold, Connor Murphy of Nesquehoning, Ethan Amerhsek of New Ringgold, Julianna Vartuli of Andreas, Abby Fiorilla of New Ringgold, McKayla McLaughlin of Tamaqua.

• Rescind motion of May 18, approving Allane Kistler, Tamaqua, as a full-time custodian.

• Affiliation agreement with Central Penn College for occupational and physical therapist assistant students offering clinical learning experiences beginning May 10, 2021, and ending with written notice of termination of either party to the other.

• Revised the 2020-2021 Title I Letter of Agreement between the district and the Schuylkill Intermediate Unit 29, Title I math and reading programs, nonpublic programs and services, Aug. 24, 2020, to June 4, 2021, at the revised cost of $4,653.15 per pupil, and 11% administration fee, at any of the following nonpublic schools: Assumption BVM School, Pottsville; Saint Jerome Regional School, Tamaqua; Saint Nicholas School, Minersville; and Trinity Academy, Shenandoah.

• Mentor positions approved: Megan Frantz, as mentor to Autumn Pedron and to Cera Gaston; Jacqueline Murphy as mentor to Briona Deeter; Charise Fiorilla, as mentor to Sarah Geronimo, as a stipend to be determined.

• Kristen Tubbs, 2021 extended school year teacher, at an established stipend of $25 per hour.

• Authorize the business manager to select the district’s insurance package (lowest cost option for the current program) for the 2021-2022 fiscal year in the event final numbers are not available for our last meeting in June)

• Mauch Chunk Trust Company as the district’s depository for the 2021-2022 fiscal year

• M&T Bank as the district’s tax account depository for the 2021-2022 fiscal year

• Authorize the business manager to select the lowest responsible bidder for fuel oil through the Schuylkill County Heating Oil Consortium for the 2021-2022 school year.

• 2021-2022 tuition rates (preliminary): Elementary $9,378.29; secondary $10,709.03

• Purchase 500 HP Chromebooks from Trox Inc. at a cost not to exceed $200,000, with funding from the Morgan Foundation.

• Authorize renovations to the tennis courts from the Breneman Company, a CoStar vendor, Lancaster, at a cost of $44,000.

• Cancel the virtual net metering of electricity at the Tamaqua Area High School and Tamaqua Area Middle School

• Competitive bidding for energy supply contracts for the Tamaqua Area High School and Tamaqua Area Middle School.

• Establishing permission to sell SREC at a threshold of $50 or more to Solar Renewable Energy, with any request to sell at a lower rate needing school district approval

• Salary schedules for administrative and noncontract positions.
