Tamaqua home damaged in early morning fire

First responders from Tamaqua and the surrounding communities were called to a fire at 645 E. Broad St. in Tamaqua early Tuesday morning. Tamaqua police received the call to the scene at 6:55 a.m. Police said nobody was home or injured and that the fire is under investigation, but it appeared to start at the rear of the residence. Reports at the scene bring into question two propane tanks as a possible cause for the fire. A cat was lost in the fire and another is missing. Police said the 600 and 500 blocks of East Broad were closed, which caused a detour for motorists. An attempt to reach the Tamaqua fire chief was unsuccessful as of press time.
