Lehighton High School takes COVID break Monday

Lehighton Area High School students attended classes virtually on Monday, according to an announcement from district administration.

Over the past week, the district was notified of three positive cases at the high school.

“These cases, along with the vast majority of our positive cases, have been traced to exposures outside of the building,” Superintendent Jonathan Cleaver said. “The purpose of this closure is to reset the rolling 14-day positive case count for the high school. Although we have not yet met the positive case threshold, we want to take advantage of the weekend to provide the three consecutive days off needed to reset the count.”

The high school has been closed for all activities since Saturday.

All other schools will operate at their normal schedule on Monday, and activities will continue as scheduled.

“As we have communicated in the past, it is important to keep your child home (or staff should stay home) if you suspect any illness,” Cleaver said. “In addition, continue to follow the recommendations of wearing a mask, practicing good hygiene, and continue taking temperatures every day before coming to the school.”
