The Tamaqua Area School Board approved the following on Monday:

Auxiliary Committee

• A request to contact STC and obtain a bid to install a classroom canopy on Tamaqua School District Property. The canopy will be constructed by the tennis courts, as there is no shaded area in the vicinity.

• The second reading of Policy 251, homeless students

• The first reading of Policy 214.1, weighted grades.

“We voted on this a year or two ago, it was not necessary updated correctly we found as we were doing some audits,” said Dr. Stephen Toth. “We were just making sure our procedures and policy are reflective on both ends.”

Education Committee

• The 2021-22 TASD school calendar as presented

• A two-year letter of linkage between the Tamaqua Area School District and New Beginnings, Pottsville.

Finance Committee

• The tax report and list of the number of people who qualify for exemption for assessed occupation and/or per capita taxes.

Business Manager Connie Ligenza noted that 117 people qualified for per capita, while 229 qualified for assessed occupation exemptions.

• Tax refunds for: Rush Township, per capita (2017, 2018, 2019); Rush Township, assessed occupation (2018, 2018, 2019) and West Penn per capita and assessed occupation (2020).

• The contract with AEM Architects as presented.

• A three-year maintenance agreement, effective Feb. 1, 2021, with NRG Controls North Inc. as presented: Year 1 ($3,600), Year 2 ($3,600) and Year 3 ($3,700).
