Virus update: 15,758 cases in 2 days

The Pennsylvania Department of Health confirmed Friday, that there were 7,360 new cases, in addition to 8,425 new cases reported Thursday, for a two-day total of 15,785 additional positive cases of COVID-19, bringing the statewide total to 343,614.

There are 4,087 people hospitalized with COVID-19. Of that number, 877 patients are in the intensive care unit with COVID-19. Most of the patients hospitalized are ages 65 or older, and most of the deaths have occurred in patients 65 or older.

As of 11:59 p.m., Wednesday there were 118 new deaths and as of Thursday at midnight, there were 21 new deaths reported for a total of 10,234 deaths attributed to COVID-19.

In nursing and personal care homes, there are 33,947 resident cases of COVID-19, and 6,553 cases among employees, for a total of 40,500 at 1,249 distinct facilities in 63 counties. Out of our total deaths, 6,459 have occurred in residents from nursing or personal care facilities. A county breakdown can be found here.

Approximately 14,336 of Pa.’ s total cases are among health care workers.

The two-day increase in local counties:

Carbon County is reporting 1,252 cases, an increase of 102 cases. Two more deaths are reported for a total of 48.

In Lehigh County, there are 10,981 cases, an increase of 578 cases. One additional death has been reported for a total of 382.

Luzerne County has 9,238 cases, an increase of 499 cases. There are four additional deaths for a total of 267 deaths.

Monroe County has 3,180 cases, an increase of 140. Deaths remain at 141.

In Northampton County, there are 390 new cases, bringing the total to 8,667. One more death has been reported for a total of 331.

Schuylkill County has 3,900 cases, an increase of 191. Three more deaths are attributed to COVID-19, bringing the total to 166.
