Local family stranded in NM seeks help

A local family is stuck in New Mexico and needs your help.

Roxann Strohl, a traveling NICU nurse of 15 years, couldn’t find employment due to the pandemic. Finally, Strohl, of Lehighton, found an opportunity in California.

Strohl, husband Matthew and their three children loaded up their truck and RV and headed for the Golden State.

“They were in New Mexico when their transmission went on their truck,” said Matthew’s sister, Tanya.

According to the GoFundMe page, they immediately called for police assistance and were told they can’t use flares or leave their lights to help divert traffic.

“They pulled off to the side of the road, waited for roadside assistance,” Tanya said. “They waited over 8 hours for a tow truck. About 20 minutes before the tow truck was going to arrive, they got sideswiped by an eighteen-wheeler.”

It could have been worse. But Roxann has a few fractures, Matthew has a shoulder injury and a daughter has whiplash and a concussion.

“Right now my brother and his family are stranded in New Mexico with no car and no place to call home,” Tanya said on the fundraiser page. “They are waiting on insurance adjusters and their truck to be fixed.”

Strohl was supposed to start her new NICU contract last Monday, but is still stranded.

“Right now this hero needs some heroes of her own.”
